Sheinbaum to Meet with Families of Missing Students

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced during the morning conference at the National Palace that she is preparing to meet with the mothers and relatives of the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students. She emphasized that, despite the progress made during the previous administration, there are still unresolved issues.

Sheinbaum informed that she is already collaborating with Undersecretary Arturo Medina to coordinate the meeting. In line with the strategy followed by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, she mentioned that the main priority will be to talk to the parents before making any statements regarding how the case will be addressed during the period from this year to 2030.

The stance of strengthening the investigation into this case, maintained during the campaign, remains a priority for Sheinbaum. During AMLO's mandate, the disappearance of the students was classified as a "state crime," contradicting the previous version of the "historical truth" presented by her predecessor, Enrique Peña Nieto.

The parents and relatives have harshly criticized the management of information by Obrador, arguing that information was hidden from them by the Government with the supposed aim of protecting the Mexican Army. Now, with Sheinbaum's arrival, the families of the missing students have once again expressed their demands for justice, to find their loved ones, and for accountability, regardless of the hierarchical level of those responsible.
